History
A success story for more than 80 years
With 120 employees working in production and sales, a very efficient logistic system and a large assortment that includes more than 3,000 articles, BKN Strobel is one of Europe‘s leading nurseries specializing in container plants and roses.
- 1927 Gustav Strobel founds the company Strobel & Co. in Pinneberg and produces bedding plants
- 1951 Strobel & Co. takes over the successful French rose breeding company Meilland. Garden and greenhouse roses widen the range of products
- 1963 The groundwork is set for the production of woody plants in containers
- 1971 Hanns-Henning Kähler and Dieter Schakat found the nursery Kontor Nord in Rellingen
- 1981 BKN purchases Strobel & Co.
- 1987 Both companies consolidate to form BKN Strobel
- 2002 BKN Strobel‘s new, state-of-the-art, future-oriented nursery opens in Holm
- 2003 Environmental Award for Horticulture from North Rhine-Westphalia
- 2005 Hannsjörg Kähler and Hajo Steinmeyer become the Managing Directors of the company
- 2006 BKN Strobel is granted the Taspo Award for the category “Nursery of the Year”
- 2007 Taspo Award: “Best Marketable Plant Novelty” for the Eden rose
- 2008 Taspo Award: “Best Internet Presence”
- 2009 Award for a “Company with a World Outlook” by the Federal Ministry for Labor and Social Affairs
